Jonathan Marvel

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jonathan Marvel is a founding principal at Marvel Architects and has spent over 35 years practicing the art of architecture. His team of 100+ architects in New York and San Juan work to find the intersection between technology, industry, artistry and culture. Jonathan works across many disciplines and has led the design and planning of public spaces, educational institutions, single and multi-family housing, libraries, museums and large-scale mixed-use developments. Jonathan has taught at Pratt Institute’s Graduate School of Planning and Placemaking, and as an adjunct at Harvard, Parsons, Rice University, Washington University, and Syracuse University. Jonathan is the recipient of national and international design awards, is co-chair of the NYAIA Planning and Urban Design Committee, sits on the boards of The Buckminster Fuller Institute, the Van Alen Institute, The Isamu Noguchi Museum, and Publicolor.  Jonathan founded Citizen Designer as well as of Resilient Power Puerto Rico, which is currently leading clean energy initiatives across the island of Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane María. Best known for projects like St. Ann's Warehouse, McCarren Pool, New Lab at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Pratt Institute School of Architecture, State Street Townhouses, and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, Marvel is renowned for redefining Brooklyn's landscape.
