Dr. Carol Bentel

Dr. Carol Bentel FAIA, FIIDA is Chair of SVA’s BFA Interior Design: Built Environments Department, is an architect and partner at Bentel & Bentel Architects/Planners, Fulbright Scholar, and Rome Prize Fellow. She was the 2008 national Chair of the AIA Committee on Design, a fellow of the AIA College of Fellows, and a newly inducted Fellow of IIDA - the International Interior Design Association. She co-authored the book, Nourishing the Senses: Restaurant Architecture of Bentel & Bentel which includes the design of The Modern Restaurant at MoMA and Le Bernardin. The up-coming book Correlations: Life + Work is about her firm and family (all designers and architects), which will be released in fall 2021. Dr. Bentel received her Ph.D. in History, Theory and Criticism in the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and has previously taught at Harvard University, MIT, Georgia Tech, and NYIT among other institutions.
